  On the surface it may sound great, from a control-freak man's perspective, to be handed the mantle of authority over your family. But if anyone takes even a minute to look at how it plays out in real life, they realize it doesn't really work. Stories of JW wives that leave their oppressive JW husbands are a dime a dozen. The JW husband only has control as long as his wife continues to buy into it. In developed countries, truly "WT submissive" wives are very rare, IMO. JW husbands take note or suffer the consequences.

  The words often attributed to Jesus, The Golden Rule, are IMO, probably the most valid advice for human relationships ever uttered.

  Why would anyone, regardless of their gender, agree to be steam-rolled by another human based simply on the Argument from Authority?

  If we both feel strongly about an issue, let's discuss the merits of all sides. And the first question I'll ask myself internally is: "How big of a deal is this to me?" If it's not that big of deal, let the other person have their way.

  Everything beyond that got a bit shaky for me throughout my JW life.

  But this bit, I NEVER bought into for even an instant: The husband is the Head of the wife.

  Not once in our many years of JW marriage did I ever play the "headship" card. Nor did I think it made any sense.

  How about you?

  CO's putting the screws on elder bodies, and ministerial servants to auxilliary pioneer this April.

  i have such a love/hate, 50/50 relationship with this organization any more, but a letter was read to the elders and ministerial servants that has pushed me to the 30/70 range in favor of hate, if even momentarily.

  most of you if not all are aware of the auxilliary pioneering initiative for this upcoming april.

  it's no secret that i'm not real fond of pioneering as its unscriptural for one thing.

  it's been my experience so far, that anything a person wants to find out about jehovahs witnesses, they can find out from jehovahs witnesses.

  any and all information ever published by jehovah witnesses is accessible to all.

  • They sift the facts, exploiting the useful ones and concealing the others

  • They also distort and twist facts, specializing in lies and half-truths

  Plenty of posters on this board do exactly that.

  And plenty of other posters, who aren't quite as foaming-at-the-mouth ticked off at the Organization, set the record straight when someone goes too far overboard with inaccurate exaggerations. (Blondie springs to mind as the patron Saint of JWN fact-checking.)

  I used to spend quite a lot of time in my early days here correcting blatant misstatements by other posters. Why?

  Because a JW who is having doubts will DESPERATELY look for and cling to the slightest misstatement of fact as evidence that the entire argument is specious. The JW true-believer is INCREDIBLY biased. (Actually this applies to all "true-believers".) Someone who challenges their world view must be 100% accurate. If they make even a single slip-up, the true-believer will throw out their entire argument because they are so heavily invested in the idea that they have THE TRUTH.

  No doubt she's helped you realize "worldly" people aren't all bad.

  Here's some unsolicited advice.

  1. Keep the peace with your parents if you can.

  2. Let them know you NEED to get an education.

  3. Make career, school and social contacts outside the JWs.

  4. Enjoy your path.

  hey all.. a few of you might remember me.

  i showed up on a similar board a few years back because my wife was getting baptized.. it was a difficult time but i was able to work through it with a lot of prayer and help from a lot of smart folks here.. my wife has since left the organization, and the wt has faded into a tiny speck in our rearview mirror that we rarely talk about.. i have enjoyed being free from the watchtower driven life for awhile, and frankly i really needed it, but i also know that alot of people aren't so lucky.

  insomnia and a sense of duty has compelled me to wander back in here.
